PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To propose a fuel additive to prevent slagging which is caused by ash in the fuels when various fuels having a high ash content, particularly typified by coal, oil coke and the like, are burned, as well as to propose a method of burning the fuels using the same. SOLUTION: The combustion is carried out by adding the fuel additive in a liquid fuel oil or a solid fuel, which fuel additive comprises a composition having one or more of an Al compound, an Si compound, a Ti compound, and a Zr compound, each in a super-fine particulate having a particulate size of 3-200 nm, and a water-soluble explosive compound dissolved or dispersed in water.
