PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a shift from a V.8 protocol and to enable a service provider to surely perform facsimile communication and data communication when performing communication that is not higher than V.17 for calling a service provider that supports FAX communication and data communication, and to make a call from V.21 procedures without executing conventional V.8 procedures and accordingly, to surely perform picture transmission that is not higher than V.17 when performing communication that is not higher than V.17 between facsimile termnals. SOLUTION: The facsimile machine has an ANSam signal receiving means, a CM signal transmitting means, a means for registering specified telephone number information, and a communication protocol changing means for changing communication protocols when facsimile communication is selected between the case of making a call to a specified telephone number and making a call to a telephone number other than the specified telephone number.
