PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner for a vehicle which enables sure prevention of frosting of an evaporator. SOLUTION: The air conditioner for a vehicle detects air temperature on the blowout side of the evaporator inside an air conditioning casing 1, and prevents frosting of the evaporator 5 by stopping and controlling a compressor for circulating a cooling medium into the evaporator 5 or restricting a flow of the cooling medium. The air conditioner is equipped with a temperature sensor 11 on the suction side for detecting air temperature on the suction side of the evaporator 5 and a door 3 for switching inside and outside air which switches the air introduced into the air conditioning casing by inner air on the room side and outside air on the outside of the vehicle. When the temperature detected by the temperature sensor 11 on the suction side drops below the preset temperature, the air to be introduced into the air conditioning casing 1 is switched to the inner air on the room side by the door 3 for switching inside and outside air.
