<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hypotensive agent which exhibits an excellent hypotensive action, to provide a method for producing the hypotensive agent, by which the hypotensive agent can be produced from a polyphenol-containing raw material, and to provide a propolis composition which can stably maintain the unstable hypotensive agent. <P>SOLUTION: This hypotensive agent contains at least one of polyphenols as an active ingredient. The method for producing the hypotensive agent is characterized by mixing the polyphenol-containing raw material with an extraction solvent, adding the extract extracted with the solvent to a separation carrier or resin such as silica gel, eluting the extract with the separation solvent such as methanol or chloroform, and collecting the extracted polyphenol, while using fluorescent light emitted with excited light in the UV light region as an index.
