PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polyester fiber which has exceedingly excellent fastness to light, is suitable for car-interior trims, curtains and outdoor use, keeps a clear color even exposed to sunlight for many hours and does not fade. SOLUTION: The polyester fiber is obtained by copolymerizing a dicarboxylic acid with a dihydric alcohol and≥0.05 mol % based on the whole acid components of an ester-forming monomer having structure represented by general formula R<SB>2</SB>OOC -R<SB>1</SB>-COOR<SB>3</SB>(1) (R<SB>1</SB>is a naphthalene ring; R<SB>2</SB>and R<SB>3</SB>are each a hydrogen atom or selected from a 1-4C alkyl group and R<SB>2</SB>and R<SB>3</SB>are each mutually independent and may be the same or different; the positions of the substituent groups on the naphthalene ring of the ester-forming monomer are -2,3-, -2,5-, -2,6-, -2,7-, -1,2-, -1,3-, -1,4-, -1,5-, -1,6-, -1,7- or -1,8-) to form a copolyester, spinning and drawing the copolyester to give a fiber and dyeing the fiber.
