PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the size of the transplanting part of a transplanter provided with a transfer mechanism composed of a longitudinal transfer mechanism to longitudinally transfer a seedling tray and a lateral transfer mechanism to laterally transfer the seedling tray, taking a pot seedling from the seedling tray transferred by the transfer mechanism, delivering it to a planting mechanism and planting the pot seedling on a ridge by using the planting mechanism. SOLUTION: The longitudinal transfer mechanism has transfer chains 20a, 20b having protruding pins 22 engaging with the seedling tray B. Transfer chains are extended between drive sprockets 21a, 21b and chain-engaging frames 35a, 35b separated from the sprockets by a prescribed distance. The chain engaging frame 35a or 35b is a rod curved at a prescribed curvature. A bite-preventing bent part 46 formed by bending the chain engaging frame is attached to an end of the chain engaging frame. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
