PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a biaxial stretching mechanism which can freely stretch both ends of a sheet in a direction perpendicular to a tensile direction without being restricted by a grasping implement and which can uniformly stretch a square sheet in orthogonal biaxial directions. SOLUTION: The biaxial stretching mechanism includes a plurality of grasping implements 20 movable along a protrusion 3 in a state that grooves 24 are engaged with the protrusions 3 of the square sheet 1 to grasp respective sides of the four sides of the square sheet 1 by engaging the grooves 24 with the protrusions 3 of one side surface of the sheet 1, and four pantograph mechanism 30X, 30Y coupled to the plurality of grasping implements 20. The stretching mechanism moves the grasping implements 20 of opposed positions in a direction for separating from each other, while moving the grasping implements 20 in a direction perpendicular to the grasping implements 20 disposed at the opposed positions along the protrusion 3 of the square sheet by the pantograph mechanism 30X, 30Y, enlarges an interval between the adjacent grasping implements and stretches the square sheet 1 in two different directions.
