PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To save an ink ribbon and at the same time to shorten a printing processing time. SOLUTION: When a non-printing time duration to a label paper fed by a paper feed mechanism is longer than a set time, a displacement mechanism is driven to separate a thermal head from a platen, and at the same time conveyance of the ribbon by a ribbon feed device is stopped. After the thermal head is separated from the platen, when a time duration until next printing to the label paper is started reaches the set time, the operation of the displacement mechanism is released to press the thermal head in contact with the platen and also resume the ribbon conveyance by the ribbon feed device. The setup time at this time is set to be a time duration required for the thermal head to be pressed in contact with the platen by the operation release of the displacement mechanism or a time duration slightly longer than it.
