PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lash adjuster for maintaining a stable amount of valve lifting. SOLUTION: An adjuster screw 16 is screwed in engagement with a screw hole 15 provided in the lower face of an end plate 12 of a lifter body 11 and the adjuster screw 16 is thrust in the axial direction by an elastic body 17. A female screw 15a of the screw hole 15 and a male screw 16a of the adjuster screw 16 each have a saw-toothed screw thread. A plurality of axial grooves 21 are formed in the inner periphery of the screw hole 15 for parting the screw thread in the peripheral direction. A satin-finished surface 23 is formed on a pressure side frank 20 of the screw thread of the male screw 16a with shot peening. An oil film laid between each of the axial grooves 21 and the satin-finished surface 23 and the pressure side frank 20 is removed to stabilize the amount of valve lifting. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
