PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a valve gear which is effectively miniaturized and ensures an adequate and smooth valve operation, and an internal combustion engine having this valve gear. SOLUTION: This valve gear comprises an intake valve 20 and an exhaust valve 20<SB>Ex</SB>to perform intake control and exhaust control, respectively, an intake side valve lifter 16 and an exhaust side valve lifter 16<SB>Ex</SB>to be supported by a rocking shaft in a rocking manner so that each end thereof is abutted on a valve stem end, and an intake side cam and an exhaust side cam to be integrally rotated with a cam shaft 12 so that rotary sliding contact parts 19 and 19<SB>Ex</SB>provided on the valve lifters are brought into slidable contact with each other. The intake side cam and the exhaust side cam are integrated with each other, and fitted in a relatively movable manner along the axial direction of the single cam shaft 12. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
