PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly accurate and inexpensive compass as a substitute for an expensive gyro compass and a magnetic compass having unsatisfactory accuracy. SOLUTION: The bearing of the bow of one's own vessel is computed by spherical trigonometric computation from the location of one's own vessel measured by a GPS receiver; a location acquired by determining the radio beacon station closest to the measured location; and the relative bearing of the radio beacon station from one's own vessel acquired by measuring the direction of incoming reference radio waves transmitted from the radio beacon station by a direction finder.
