A dough kneader has a rotatable mixing container 2 and a rotatable kneading member 5 the envelope of which is a double cone 7 having a generating axis coincident with the axis of rotation of the member and extending in a plane containing the axis of rotation of the container and at an angle thereto. As shown one tip of the double cone preferably projects beyond the container axis and the other beyond its upper edge. As shown in Fig. 3 the arms of the kneader have portions 8, 81, extending in axial planes from its rotational axis, joining portions 9, 91 which extend in a curve or helix over the base of the double cone.
