An energy saving (regenerative) brake system comprises a pair of drums (brake drum 1 and accelerator drum 9) which are engaged with each other. The brake drum 1 is also connected to a disc 6 and spring 8 within a chamber 7. When braking, the brake drum 1 engages a wheel 2 causing rotation of a rod which in turn rotates the disc 6, causing it to ride up grooves 7 and resulting in the spring being compressed, and thereby providing braking. When accelerating / starting up however, accelerator drum 9 can be engaged with the wheel 2 instead and the energy stored in the spring 8 released to accelerate the wheel 2. Instead or in addition to the energy being stored by a spring mechanism 8, gas could be compressed so as to store the energy. |
