A coil layer 35 is formed in a space surrounded by a lower core layer 29, a protruding layer 32 and a back gap layer 33, and the tops of the protruding layer, a coil insulating layer 36 and the back gap layer are planarized to a continuous flat surface. A lower magnetic pole layer 39, a gap layer 40, an upper magnetic pole layer 41 and an upper core layer 42 are formed on the flat surface. Since the lower magnetic pole layer, the gap layer, the upper magnetic pole layer and the upper core layer can be formed on the flat surface, the four layers can be precisely formed in a predetermined shape, and the track width Tw can be easily be set to a predetermined dimension by the width dimension of the upper magnetic pole layer at the surface facing the recording medium. Also, the magnetic path can be shortened to improve magnetic properties. |
