A labyrinth seal is formed by a pair of rings 10, 11 of plastics material each having axially extending flanges 16, 19 which intermesh without contact between corresponding flanges on the other ring, the radially outermost flange 20 of one ring 10 being axially longer than the remaining flanges on that ring and the other ring 11 having an axial extension 21 on the side remote from the flange 19. As shown in Fig. 2 to seal a shaft bearing 34, the ring 10 is fitted in a recess in the shaft housing 32 and the ring 11 embraces the shaft 30 with the extension 21 contacting the bearing and forming therewith a space 36 which is packed with lubricant. The rings 10 and 11 may be of differing plastics materials. |
