FIELD: organic synthesis. SUBSTANCE: preparation of 9R-symm-octahydroselenoxanthenes by reaction of 4-R-2,3-tetramethylene[3.3.1]bicyclononane-3-ol-9-ones with hydrogen selenide under acid catalysis conditions is characterized by that hydrogen selenide is obtained in situ by dissolving zinc selenide in reaction milieu and that reaction is carried out in one step in presence of phosphorous acid esters, which are prepared by dissolving phosphorous trichloride in methanol simultaneously providing required concentration of hydrogen chloride in solution.
