PURPOSE: An LCD projector is provided to comprise a scanning unit for scanning light projected over entire areas of an image display unit by being installed between a light source and the image display unit, thereby magnifying an optical efficiency. CONSTITUTION: A concave lens(38) makes light reflected from a cold mirror(33) straight between the cold mirror(33) and a condensing lens(34), and condenses light irradiated on an LCD plate(37) with a reflection mirror(32). An optical splitting unit(39) splits the light passing through the concave lens(38) into predetermined areas. An optical scanning unit(40) enables the light passing through the optical splitting unit(39) to be scanned on a screen within the shortest time.
