FIELD: petroleum processing. SUBSTANCE: composition contains petroleum product and detectable amount of marker, in particular biological pigment preparation "Prodigiosin" in amount (1,2-9,3).10-6 g/l. Marking is performed by adding to product required amount of marker solution. Identification of petroleum product involves adding developing reagent, in particular 36% aqueous hydrochloric acid solution, which is added in amount 0.33-0,35% to sample depending on the volume of sample. Quantitative content of marker in petroleum product is found by absorption spectrophotometry technique. Marking solution contains marker and solvent, concentration of the former being 0.13-2.20%. Solvent is selected from ethanol, light petroleum, and ethyl acetate. Marker is prepared by growing bacteria Serratia marcescens on agar-supplemented oats medium followed by extraction of 96% ethanol at shaking. Multistep extraction is continued until bacterial mass is decolorized and, after each step, bacterial mass is sedimented and then separated from supernatant.
