1,133,038. Dyeing acrylonitrile copolymers. JAPAN EXLAN CO., Ltd. 30 March, 1967 [30 March, 1966], No. 14690/67. Heading D1B. Acrylonitrile copolymer fibre is coloured by immersing said fibre in a dyebath containing at least one cationic dyestuff, at least one water-soluble salt of either a saturated or ethylenically unsaturated aliphatic monocarboxylic acid having at least 11 carbon atoms or a saturated or ethylenically unsaturated aliphatic di-carboxylic acid having at least 4 carbon atoms in the molecule in an amount of at least 5% of the weight of the fibres and a non-ionic surface active agent, adjusting the pH of the bath to an alkaline value, gradually raising the temperature of the dyebath to the b.p. thereof and thereafter gradually reducing the pH of the dyebath to an acid value. The salts used may be sodium, potassium or ammonium and preferably the initial pH is 8-9 and the final pH 3-4.
