1,193,677. Lubricating; toothed gearing. USM CORP. 31 July, 1967 [1 Aug., 1966], No. 35051/67. Headings F2A and F2Q. A lubricating device comprises coaxial annular pump components 34, 36 rotating with a rotory member 28 of a motion transmitting mechanism in a sealed casing 2, 4, the components each having tapering portions. Component 34 has a sleeve 39 with tapered flutings 42, and component 36 has tapered lips 46. When shafts 6, 8 are substantially horizontal the parts surrounding input shaft 6 carrying cam 28 are splash lubricated. When the shaft 6 is vertical and uppermost, and the lower end of sleeve 39 is immersed, lubricant is driven upward within the sleeve through openings in cam 28 to bearings 12, 30 and returns through flow control holes 55. When output shaft 8 is uppermost lubricant is driven up through component 36, cam 28 and component 34 to overflow into reservoir 53 and passes through flow control holes in wall 56 to bearings 30. The motion transmission mechanism includes a flexspline 24 to which the ellipsoidal shape of the cam 28 is transferred through bearings 30. The flexspline has teeth engageable with teeth on a circular spine 22 on the casing but fewer in number. Rotation of cam 28 causes rotation of the flexspline with spline 22 and thus rotation of attached shaft 8. |
