PURPOSE: Provided is a therapeutic composition for diabetes which contains the lower alcohol insoluble extract fraction of Hovenia dulcis Thunberg or polysaccharides separated therefrom, as an active ingredient, and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. It is useful for the prevention and treatment of diabetes. CONSTITUTION: A therapeutic composition for diabetes is characterized by containing the lower alcohol insoluble extract fraction of Hovenia dulcis Thunberg or polysaccharide fractions separated therefrom and consisting of mannose, glucose, galactose, ramanose, arabinose, xylose. It further contains a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. The lower alcohol is preferably methanol.
