Disclosed is a transparent or pigmented powder coating material based on at least one carboxyl-containing polyester and at least one .beta.-hydroxyalkylamide, wherein the polyester is prepared by condensation of: (A) at least one aliphatic or cycloaliphatic diol or polyol, with a combination of: (B) at least one aliphatic, or cycloaliphatic or aromatic dicarboxylic or polycarboxylic acid, and (C) at least one aliphatic, or cycloaliphatic or aromatic dicarboxylic or polycarboxylic ester; and the polyester has a glass transition temperature of from 30 to 90.degree.C and an acid number of from 10 to 150 mg KOH/g. The coating material has high mechanical and outdoor resistance. The cost of this production is more reasonable than those of the prior art.
