A method of functionalizing an organosilicon compound bearing at least one triple boundSi-H unit per molecule by hydrosilylation of at least one synthon bearing at least one (preferably ethylenic) unsaturation containing one or more heterocycles in which the heteroatom is preferably oxygen in the presence of a heterogeneous catalyst comprising a metal on an inert support and of a non-nucleophilic inorganic base and optionally water. An independent claim is included for a functionalized organosilicon compound comprising the residues of a functionalization auxiliary consisting of one or more non-nucleophilic inorganic base, preferably a bicarbonate and most preferably sodium bicarbonate.
