PURPOSE: Provided is a sea water filtration apparatus having filtration layers comprised of a loess layer, a coal layer and a crustacean layer, and further provided is functional water obtained by treating sea water using the apparatus, the functional water containing much minerals and effective components but small amount of salt. CONSTITUTION: The apparatus comprises filtration layers including a loess layer, a coal layer, a crustacean layer and a medicinal herbs layer which are arranged in order from the top to the bottom of a barrel, and a filter layer provided between each filtration layers, wherein raw sea water is introduced from the top of the filtration layers. The functional water is the filtrate obtained by filtrating sea water using the same filtration apparatus. The functional water is used to make kimchi.
