PURPOSE: To display a high-quality picture by causing no defective alignment region resulting from presence of a columnar spacer and to attain a high aperture ratio in an electrooptical device. CONSTITUTION: The columnar spacer(401) is installed on at least one substrate out of first and second substrates sandwiching a liquid crystal layer in between and on a surface, to install the spacer thereon, of the side opposite to the liquid crystal layer of the one substrate and concurrently is provided with a slope part(410) having a face smoothly connected to the surface to install the spacer thereon formed at the basal portion thereof.
