PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coin identifying device which instantly and exactly detects a signal peculiar to a coin based on the quality of its materials, its shape and a fine uneven pattern on its surface, precisely identifies the kind of the coin and verifies the truth of the coin. SOLUTION: The coin identifying device comprises a coin passing part 3 through which the coin 2 to be identified passes, a permanent magnet 4 which is arranged on a coin 2 intrusion side opposite to the coin passing part 3 and generates an eddy current on the surface of the coin, an magnetic impedance sensor 5 which is arranged adjacent to the coin dispensing side of the permanent magnet 4 opposite to the coin passing part 3, a detection circuit 6 which detects variation in impedance of the sensor 5 and a identifying circuit 7 which is connected with the detection circuit 6 and identifies the kind of the coin by comparing the data detected with reference data.
