PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a start control device of a two-cycle engine for discriminating cylinders without delay when an engine is started, adequately and correctly performing ignition and injection control of each cylinder, improving the startability, and smoothly starting the engine. SOLUTION: A recoil-starter type two-cycle multi-cylinder engine has a reluctor 38 for detection which is simultaneously rotated with a crankshaft 28 and a pulser coil 42 (a reluctor sensor) to output a signal for discriminating cylinders by detecting the reluctor 38. The installation position of the reluctor 38 and the pulser coil corresponds to the maximum rotational speed position in one rotation of the engine, and the cylinders are determined based on output signals of the reluctor sensor when the engine is started.
