PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a linear compressor offering construction permitting the rocking connection of a connection rod to a piston with easy assembling work while reducing the bore of the piston, without producing an increase in mutual sliding contact pressure between the spherical end of the connection rod and the piston. SOLUTION: The piston 3 supported in the cylinder 2 slidably along its axial direction has a hollow piston body 3a in which the connection rod 11 is arranged and a piston cover member 22 for covering an opening portion at one end of the piston body 3a. The connection rod 11 has one end connected to spring members 4, 7 and the spherical end 31 at the other end turnably held in the state of being sandwiched between a spherical seat face 37 on the inner periphery face of the piston body 3a and a spherical seat face 34 of the piston cover member 22.
