PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To install a wiping mechanism in a paper transfer direction without making an apparatus large. SOLUTION: A first wiping means for wiping an ink jet recording head in the paper transfer direction is arranged at the side opposite to a cap via a paper printing region. An ink firing opening peripheral part is subjected to first wiping, and a region left without being wiped by the first wiping means is subjected to wiping by a second wiping means in a direction perpendicular to the paper transfer direction.
