<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten rewind time from the end to the beginning of a magnetic tape. <P>SOLUTION: A magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus has two operation mode of a mechanism, i.e. a first winding mode at a state that the magnetic tape 16 is wound to a rotary head cylinder 5 and a second winding mode that the magnetic tape 16 is not wound on the rotary head cylinder 5, is provided with a mode transition means 8 which transits the mechanism to either operating state of the first or second winding mode, a capstan motor 9 which performs fast forward or rewind of the magnetic tape 16 at either of the first or second winding mode and an end detection means 13 which detects the end of the magnetic tape 16. The mode transition means 8 stops a fast forward operation after transiting the operation mode to the second winding mode based on end detection from the end detection means 13 in the case of the fast forward operation by the first winding mode. Thus, mode transition from the first winding mode to the second winding mode becomes unnecessary in a rewinding operation by the second winding mode and the rewind time is shortened. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p> |
