<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an edge phantom for evaluating the sharpness based on an edge step response of a digital radiography system. <P>SOLUTION: The edge phantom evaluates the sharpness response of a radiation recording and detecting system. The edge phantom generates a radiograph by being exposed to radiation from a radiation source and evaluates the radiograph recorded and detected by the system. The edge phantom is designed such that a line locating outside of a plane perpendicular to the top face of the edge phantom and extending from the focus of the radiation source to a point on a curved or flat side face of the phantom matches with the linear part of the side face containing the point.
