PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a level gauge which measures a water level automatically by generating a transmitting pulse so that each reflected pulse reflected back from fixed reflectors and a liquid surface may have two peak values, and controlling these. SOLUTION: A control unit 50 adjusts the input signal E of a pulse generator 54 automatically so that at least two peak values K of each reflected pulse Pr after its amplification by an STC amplifier 36 may be the same (a reference voltage Vr) at each reflected pulse Pr, and the gain of the STC amplifier 36 is adjusted automatically so that the peak values K of each reflected pulse Pr whose two peak values K have become the same (the reference voltage Vr) may be the same (the reference voltage Vr). As the STC amplifier 36 and the pulse generator 54 can be adjusted automatically by the control unit 50 by doing this way, the water level can be measured automatically by a counter 53 and the control unit 50.
