PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a capacity per battery volume of a flat battery, in particular, a flat nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery capable of performing heavy load discharging by using a wound or stacked group of electrodes. SOLUTION: A clearance between the group of electrodes having a square flat surface formed by squarely forming the outer shape of the flat battery and an electrode case 8 or 6 is reduced. The outer peripheral radius R of the corner of the negative electrode case 6 or positive electrode case 8 of a square shape is determined to be 2-4mm, whereby the flat square group of electrodes can be efficiently accommodated, and the battery capacity per battery volume can be increased.
