PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make optimal motive power able to be to a hybrid construction machine according to load. SOLUTION: The hybrid construction machine has a pump output computing means 20 for computing the output of a hydraulic pump; an engine speed setting means 18 for setting engine speed; a threshold setting means 23 for setting a threshold according to setting signals of the speed setting means 18 to switch the function of a motor-generator between its function as a motor and its function as a generator; and a comparison means 25 for comparing the threshold set by the threshold setting means 23 to the output of the hydraulic pump computed by the computing means 20. The function of the motor-generator is switched and controlled according to the comparison result by the comparison means 25. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
