PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a breakwater provided with an excellent seawater exchanging function making use of wave heads continuously striking the breakwater. SOLUTION: The breakwater is provided with a water passage penetrated from the outside of the breakwater to the inside. The outside opening 21 of the water passage 2 is lower than the wave head but higher than the still water level and the inside opening 22 of the water passage 2 is formed at the lower position than the outside opening 21.
