PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a visible light active water decomposition photocatalyst with a good efficiency and no toxicity in production of H2by photo-decomposition of water. SOLUTION: The photocatalyst is obtained, which comprises NaInS2, AgInZnxSx+2(X is 3-10) Bi dope ZnS or Pb and Cl co-dope ZnS and is further activated by a noble metal, for example, platinum. In particular, the visible light active water decomposition photocatalyst is obtained, in which hydrogen is generated from an aqueous solution in which SO32-and S2-ions exist under visible light.
