A section (12) of a fabric (5) with a different function is incorporated into a warp knitted fabric during knitting. The base fabric (B) has a gap (A) into which the different fabric (12) is joined by stitches (13). Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) preparing the different fabric (5) by a separate process and then incorporating it during knitting of the base fabric (B) in a second process; (b) combining two fabrics prepared separately in a third process, e.g. on a sew-knitting machine; (c) use of pointed compound needles (7) in sew-knitting function; (d) knitting machine fitted over the whole width with pointed needles with a gap (A) for introducing the different fabric (5).
