1,136,434. Extruding arcuate elements. COMPAGNIE GENERALE DES PRODUITS INDUSTRIELS ET DE SYNTHESE "C.O.G.E.P.R.I.S.". 2 Nov., 1966 [3 Nov., 1965], No. 49210/66. Heading B5A. An arcuate element 25, e.g. a ceramic saddle for use in chemical processing towers, is made by extruding material through an extrusion nozzle 1 whose passageway 7 describes an arc of a circle and thereby causes the extrudate to follow an arcuate path. The extrudate operates a micro-switch 20 to actuate a transverse cutter (9), Fig. 1 (not shown), comprising a bow (11) and wire (10), the latter moving through a vertical slot 12, Fig. 2, to cut the extrudate and form the element which thereafter drops into a shoot 24. Micro-switch 20 is closed by movement of a plate 22, and cutter (9) is reciprocated by a pneumatic piston and cylinder device (17). Various cross-sectional forms of the element are shown, Figs. 3-6 (not shown). Modifications include the provision of more than one nozzle 1, the use of a photo-electric device instead of micro-switch 20 and an electromagnetic rather than a pneumatically operated device (17).
