PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus in which the number of pixels can be increased while reducing the size of the apparatus without lowering an S/N ratio. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus comprises a pixel section for altering the advancing direction of light L incident to each of the pixels P12, P22 selectively, and a photodiode Pd2 provided in a region planarly different relative to the pixel section in order to receive light having an advancing direction altered selectively at every pixel, and to convert the received light into an electric signal corresponding to the intensity of the light incident to that pixel.
