Six recording areas, in which coded/digitally-modulated data is recorded, are provided in a data recording area on a disk. The recording areas each have a different offset compensation amount. With those offset compensation amounts, all offset amounts that might potentially be generated in an error correction encoder can be compensated for. Therefore, regardless of an offset amount generated by the error correction encoder, coded/modulated data generated by the existing EFM modulation method and recorded in one of the recording areas is guaranteed to bias the DSV. The length of the recording area is set to a length long enough for the DSV bias effect to be identified.
