摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting device which can control a polarization direction, an apparatus for communication using the same and an optical communication system. SOLUTION: The light emitting device 1000 includes a substrate 10, a light emitting section 50 which generates light in a direction crossing the substrate 10, and a slab layer 30 which is arranged in a position facing the light emitting section 50. The slab layer 30 has a two-dimensional photonic crystal structure with low-refractive regions 300 periodically arrayed and includes linear defects 200 which are formed in the two-dimensional photonic crystal structure and function as waveguides and dotwise defects 100 which are formed in the two-dimensional photonic crystal structure and function as waveguides, capture the light generated in the light emitting section 50 and guide this light to the linear defects 200.
