PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an additive for making paper from pulp in which waste paper is formulated, capable of reducing slipperiness of paper surface and improving sizing properties and bulkiness by adding the additive to the pulp when paper is made from the pulp in which waste paper is mixed. SOLUTION: The additive for making the paper from the pulp in which the waste paper is mixed comprises (a) an alkyl ketene dimer obtained by using a 14-24C carboxylic acid having≤50 iodine value as a raw material and (b) an amide compound obtained by reacting a 14-24C carboxylic acid having≤50 iodine value with an amine compound represented by formula (1): R<SP>2</SP>-NH-(R<SP>1</SP>-NH)<SB>n</SB>-R<SP>1</SP>-NH-R<SP>3</SP>(wherein R<SP>1</SP>is a 1-4C alkylene group; R<SP>2</SP>and R<SP>3</SP>are each a hydrogen atom or 1-3C alkyl group; n is 1-3) in an amount of the carboxylic acid of 1.5-2.5 mol based on 1 mol amine compound.
