PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet feeding apparatus for securely separating and feeding sheets one by one, and an image forming apparatus and an image reading apparatus provided with the sheet feeding apparatus. SOLUTION: A separating and feeding portion 1A having a sheet feeding means 1 and a separating means 2 abutting against the sheet feeding means 1 and constituted rotatably in the same as or a direction opposite to the sheet feeding means 1 is provided downstream of a sheet supporting portion 100B, and sheets S are separated and fed by the separating and feeding portion. A transport restriction guide 4 is provided in the vicinity of the separating means 2 and so as to protrude in the direction of the sheet feeding means 1, and the number of sheets S coming into the pressure contact portion between the sheet feeding means 1 and the separating means 2 is restricted by the transport restriction guide 4. Furthermore, the transport restriction guide 4 is formed by a flexible member, and is provided so as to be pressed by the sheets S coming into the pressure contact portion between the sheet feeding means 1 and the separating means 2 and be flexible toward the separating means side, and the transport restriction guide 4 abuts against the separating means 2.
