PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve durability of a braking mechanism so as to operate an assembly angle operating mechanism without any degradation of responsiveness of the valve timing control or phase maintaining performance. SOLUTION: In a valve timing control device having an intermediate rotating body 18 for operational input on an assembly angle operating mechanism 4 to operate the assembly angle of a drive ring 3 and a driven shaft member 7 and having a braking mechanism to give the braking force for operation to the intermediate rotating body 18, a hysteresis brake 20 is used in the braking mechanism. Since the hysteresis brake 20 obtains a braking force in a non-contact manner, the durability is improved. Further, if the intensity of the magnetic field of a magnetic field generation unit is constant, a constant braking force is always obtained irrespective of the change in a displacement speed, eliminating troubles that responsiveness of the valve timing control is degraded or the phase maintaining performance is degraded when an engine is running at a low speed.
