摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing methyl methacrylate-d8 or methyl methacrylate-d5 having a high deuteration rate, and useful as a raw material for a plastic optical fiber or an optical waveguide material having a low transmission loss. SOLUTION: This method for producing acetone cyanohydrin-d6 from hydrogen cyanide and acetone-d6 is provided by setting the using molar ratio of hydrogen cyanide against acetone-d6 as <1.5 fold for producing acetone cyanohydrin-d6 in a high yield while suppressing the reduction of the deuteration rate, further treating the acetone cycnohydrin-d6 with sulfuric acid to form methacrylamide sulfate, then reacting it with anhydrous or aqueous methanol-dn (n=3, 4) or not deuterated normal methanol to produce methyl methacrylate-d8 or methyl methacrylate-d5 having a higher deuteration ratio exhibiting only≤1 % reduction as compared with the deuteration rate of the raw material.
