PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink cartridge capable of applying a stable negative pressure to a head without providing a sub-tank or the like in an ink jet recording apparatus, capable of storing a large amount of ink, and discharging the ink to the end without leaving it in a ink bag. SOLUTION: The ink cartridge comprises a cartridge case 1, two or more ink bags 2a installed in the cartridge case, a flexible flow channel 3a for connecting between the ink bags, a sealing mechanism which is provided in the halfway of the flow channel 3a and presses the flow channel with a pressing member 5a from substantially a vertical direction relative to the ink flowing direction to seal the flow channel 3a, and a flow-promoting mechanism 11 for allowing the ink in the flow channel 3a to smoothly flow when the sealing mechanism opens.
