PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a database management system capable of increasing a total response to a large amount of retrieval requests without lowering any response to an inserting operation when conducting asynchronizing merge. SOLUTION: This database management system is configured to switch a file so as to make a second data storing means 5 being the target of merge different from the second data storing means 5 being the target of an operation request to the data base when conducting the asynchronizing merge of the database. Thus, it is not necessary to conduct any exclusive control between the merge operation and the inserting operation, and as a result, it is possible to prevent the lowering of the response to the inserting operation.
