PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an increase in circuit scale associated with an increase in the number of data included in a target area in a data detecting device which calculates the total number of data which satisfies a prescribed condition among data included in the target area. SOLUTION: An image detecting part 10 is synchronized with a clock signal CLK and outputs image data DIN which enter in the target area and image data DOUT which come out of the target area. An area detecting part 20 is synchronized with the clock signal CLK and outputs an input area width signal HIN which enters the target area and an output area width signal HOUT which comes out of the target area. A calculating part 30 calculates data of which each brightness value K is a threshold T or larger among the image data DIN which enter the target area and the image data DOUT which come out of the target area according to the area width signals HIN, HOUT, and outputs the difference of both the calculated values as a detecting result.
