Novel phenol derivatives represented by the formula (1) [wherein the carbon atom indicated by (S) is of the S configuration and Z represents the group represented by the formula (2) or the formula (3) (wherein the carbon atom indicated by (R) is of the R configuration)]. They are useful as intermediates for various medicines. Also provided is a process for producing the phenol derivative represented by the formula (A) (wherein the carbon atoms respectively indicated by (R) and (S) have the same meanings as defined above) which comprises using any of those derivatives as an intermediate therefor.
