1,138,074. Heating chambers. B. F. GOODRICH CO. 22 July, 1966 [27 July, 1965], No. 33112/66. Heading F4U. [Also in Division C3] Apparatus for heating rubber or other organic polymeric strip comprises a heated chamber 11 having an inlet 22 and an outlet 23, an inclined perforated plate 24 and means for supplying air to the space beneath plate 24 so that it passes through the perforations therein to form an air cushion on which the strip is supported. Air is withdrawn from above the plate and passed through an external heater before returning to the chamber which is divided by partitions 20 into sub-compartments each having an independent air circulating and heating system so that different temperatures may be maintained therein. The central portion of plate 24 is upwardly concave. The strip is fed to the chamber from an extruder 10 and one end of the chamber is pivoted at 31, the other end being mounted on a jack 32. Preferred dimensions and temperatures are given with particular reference to a method of partially vulcanizing, expanding and further vulcanizing a rubber strip employing a blowing agent. |
